Teaching 1 and 2 Thessalonians

The Spring Semester of the Maranatha Bible College I have agreed to teach First and Second Thessalonians. These letters are crucial to our understanding of prophetic events to come, especially the so-called “Rapture” and the Great Tribulation.  The class will begin some date in February. I will update this blog as time “draweth nigh”.

New Bible Study being offered on The Epistles of John

Lord Willing,  beginning next week, I will be teaching a Bible Study on John’s First, Second and Third Epistles.  The study will be on Tuesdays from 4 pm to 6 pm at Maranatha Chapel, room C210.

 COURSE DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVES

This class will be an in-depth study of the Apostle John’s First, Second and Third letters to the Church at large. Considered universally as among the very best  (and most quotable) obooks of the Bible to be written. As such, its emphasis on warning the readers of difficult times ahead and how to identify unbelievers, false teacher and even antichrists who are in their midst. Several of the passages in John’s letters are difficult to interpret.

At the same time, the letters are unrivaled in their discussions on love and the way to have a close personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  Each time we meet we will discuss the letters word by word. However, each week as homework we will be required to read all of 1, 2 and 3 John for statements on particular issues or themes, helping us understand the letters as whole letters and in context. Some of the other homework will include the examination of Johannine themes in the Gospel of John that are addressed. Upon completing this course, you should be able to (1) explain the letters overall, (2) interpret the difficult passages and (3) understand many of the parallels that appear in the Gospel of John.

The Bible Study will last just 8 weeks and is being offered through the Maranatha Bible College. Registered students of the Bible College will receive full credit for the class but guests who are not part of the Bible Colleg are more than welcome.

Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.

— 1 John 3:2

HOW WE GOT OUR BIBLE

In my Bibliology class for the Maranatha Bible College, I covered issues relating to our beliefs about the Bible in 14 two-hour lectures. Two Tuesdays ago, I covered it all in 1 hour. In addition, I shared several quotes from the false gospels that are very revealing. See attached slides above.

HOLY SPIRIT CLASS: ANOINTING, FILLING AND COMING UPON

Here are the slides for the lessons on Filling and Coming Upon by the Holy Spirit. Note that there are no slides for the “anointing” of the Holy Spirit  upon an individual Christian, because I could not identify any Scripture that used “anoint” in this way. However, the meaning most people intend when they refer to the “anointing” of the Holy Spirit is adequately covered by the more Scriptural phrases of “filling” and “coming upon”.

HOLY SPIRIT CLASS: THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

Here are the slides for the lesson on the controversial topic of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, a/k/a the Second Blessing.  Distinctions are made between the “Pentecostal” position and the “Charismatic” position, both of which are Continuationist.  The Cessationist view will be addressed later.
