Where have I been?

I’m sorry it has been so long since I’ve posted and the even longer time since I posted regularly. There are two reasons.

First, I spent a year in D.C. about half of each month. I was testing the swamp water to see if I could play a role of some kind in the ideological civil war we are currently fighting. Alas, after a year of trying I determined it was God’s will I remain in San Diego.

Second, I have been writing a book. It’s pretty much finished except that, perfectionist that I am, I make very minor improvements each day. The Book has the tentative title, “The Trial of a Lifetime: a Lawyer Faces Parkinson’s Disease and Finds Faith and Joy. It is about 175 book sized pages. M next step is to find a publisher and hire an agent.

I’ll post from time to time about the status of the book and perhaps with some excerpts.
Blessings, Randy Broberg

Teaching 1 and 2 Thessalonians

The Spring Semester of the Maranatha Bible College I have agreed to teach First and Second Thessalonians. These letters are crucial to our understanding of prophetic events to come, especially the so-called “Rapture” and the Great Tribulation.  The class will begin some date in February. I will update this blog as time “draweth nigh”.

New Bible Study being offered on The Epistles of John

Lord Willing,  beginning next week, I will be teaching a Bible Study on John’s First, Second and Third Epistles.  The study will be on Tuesdays from 4 pm to 6 pm at Maranatha Chapel, room C210.

 COURSE DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVES

This class will be an in-depth study of the Apostle John’s First, Second and Third letters to the Church at large. Considered universally as among the very best  (and most quotable) obooks of the Bible to be written. As such, its emphasis on warning the readers of difficult times ahead and how to identify unbelievers, false teacher and even antichrists who are in their midst. Several of the passages in John’s letters are difficult to interpret.

At the same time, the letters are unrivaled in their discussions on love and the way to have a close personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  Each time we meet we will discuss the letters word by word. However, each week as homework we will be required to read all of 1, 2 and 3 John for statements on particular issues or themes, helping us understand the letters as whole letters and in context. Some of the other homework will include the examination of Johannine themes in the Gospel of John that are addressed. Upon completing this course, you should be able to (1) explain the letters overall, (2) interpret the difficult passages and (3) understand many of the parallels that appear in the Gospel of John.

The Bible Study will last just 8 weeks and is being offered through the Maranatha Bible College. Registered students of the Bible College will receive full credit for the class but guests who are not part of the Bible Colleg are more than welcome.

Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.

— 1 John 3:2

ENJOYING GODS WORD

I’ve taught my “How to Read the Bible Seminar” 7 times in last 10 years. Each time I was impressed by how much hunger there is for even the most elemental assistance to read God’s Word in a way that renews our love for Christ daily. With that aim, I teach a simple way of reading the Bible as a daily devotion and reading the Bible interactively, by selecting questions designed to strengthen your knowledge of God. Sometimes I’ve also benefited from the efforts of attendees. The attached is an example of that. Please put the attached Bible Questions Read Reference to good use!

A few years ago I gave my apologetics seminar entitled “Battle of over the Bible” in McKinney, Texas at Christ Fellowship.  There are approximately 5 hours of the Seminar on 7 videos.

However, the video of the seminar in McKinney was posted to Vimeo and not YouTube.

As a result, I thought it would be useful for anyone interested in watching these videos,  to have access to this videos directly from my blog here at http://www.randybroberg.com.

So here are the links to “Battle Over the Bible – an attorney takes on the Jesus seminar”.  Just click the ins.

Enjoying God’s Word: How to Read the Bible Seminar on June 3, 2017.

I will be teaching my seminar on how to enjoy reading your bible again for Maranatha Chapel (but all are welcome) on Saturday morning, 8:30 to 11:30 AM, June 3, 2017.

There is no charge for the seminar and it will be held at Maranatha Chapel, San Diego, in the Fellowship Hall.

The seminar is primarily intended for those who seek to start or improve a daily, devotional Bibe reading habit.

It is not about “studying” the Bible, it is about enjoying the time in God’s word so that one will continue in reading it, not getting discouraged or bogged down.

I look forward to seeing some of you on June 3, at 8:30 AM

How to Read the Bible seminar (short version) Slides

Last Tuesday I taught the Men’s Ministry at Maranatha on the topic of H0w to Read the Bible — with purpose!.   This was a shorter version of my Saturday morning seminars that I’ve offered at several churches.

The slides are attached above but first a word of caution: the seminar and the class last Tuesday are designed to be very interactive, with people reading the Bible on their own and in groups and discussing their findings.  As a result, the slides attached only represent the first twenty minutes of a study that lasted nearly two hours.
